Decorating a Stobie Pole near your house or your school may not seem like a big deal. When we surround ourselves with community art we inject humanity into our cityscapes. All too often we forget that cities are for people. Community Art reflects people and what they care about. Simple decorations change a street space dramatically from a cold urban zone to a character filled urban community of like minded people.

Thanks for doing an article on our unique stobie poles. I love street art and particularly love seeing these wonderfully decorated poles dotted around the suburbs.
How does our street get on board with having art on our poles?
Contact your local council- in our area it is a simple matter of asking and filling in an application. Local councils should make it as simple as possible as long as the work is appropriate. For example they would not approve of offensive art or language.
We are keen to get our street stobie poles decorated. Any clues on who we can get to do these or are there templates available where we can do them ourselves?
Hi- which council area are you in? There are a lot of community groups/ street artists that would love to paint them. Most people and councils will have no problem with stobie poles being painted as long as you don’t cover over the etsa markings. If you want to do them yourselves then look for an application form.
