Peter Drew has been very busy lately around the streets of Adelaide with his asylum seeker project. In this initiative he distributed sketchbooks to asylum seekers and asked them to draw and write about their experiences. The result is a collection of powerful and honest reflections, which have been blown up and pasted in prominent locations throughout Adelaide.
I had a fun time locating the ones still standing. The reaction from the public has been excellent so far. One wonders how long the Adelaide City council will allow these wonderful pieces which speak powerfully onto the streets.
Here is a link to the map.
Many people I have spoken to say they should be left alone as long as possible for the public good.
SBS television did a short documentary explaining the sketches and the link is provided here along with a few of the photos I took. More are available on Peter Drew’s Facebook page.
